The Sibillini Mountains are a source of ancient legends giving the same an aura of mystery. There is the Sybil's Cave from which this chain of mountains takes its name and which according to some studies, she took shelter there after the process of Christianization of the Roman Empire. The mountains also host the Lake of Pilato, which according to a popular tradition, is considered a magic and mysterious location. Indeed it takes its name from a legend according to which the corpse of Pontius Pilate, condemned to death by Tiberius, would have ended up in its waters.
